Salary: £50,000 per annum

Operating within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, they are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the maintenance function, drive operational performance, and ensure site equipment operates safely and efficiently.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional who enjoys combining leadership responsibilities with practical, day-to-day involvement on the shop floor.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for leading the engineering team and ensuring all site equipment and facilities operate reliably to meet production, service, quality, and compliance requirements.
As a key member of the management team, you will take ownership of maintenance activities, engineering improvements, contractor management, and continuous improvement initiatives, while remaining actively involved in hands-on engineering tasks when required.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of maintenance engineers.
- Coach, train, and support team members to maximise performance and capability.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover for maintenance engineers, including working shift patterns when necessary.
- Ensure the efficient operation of all plant and equipment, minimising downtime and resolving breakdowns promptly.
- Develop, implement, and manage planned preventative maintenance schedules and associated records.
- Maintain maintenance histories, compliance records, and audit documentation.
- Purchase machine parts, engineering consumables, and maintain adequate stock levels.
- Manage and develop the parts inventory and stock control systems.
- Coordinate statutory inspections and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Arrange and manage external engineering specialists and service providers as required.
- Build strong working relationships with contractors and engineering partners.
- Liaise closely with Planning and Manufacturing teams to schedule maintenance activities and equipment downtime.
- Support and deliver continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations.
- Identify engineering and process improvements that enhance efficiency, reliability, and productivity.
- Manage contractors on-site, ensuring robust health and safety controls are followed, including Permit to Work procedures where applicable.
About You
The successful candidate will:
- Have proven experience in an engineering leadership or management role within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Possess strong mechanical and/or electrical engineering knowledge.
- Be a hands-on leader who is willing to support operational activities when required.
- Have experience implementing planned preventative maintenance systems.
- Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.
- Be confident managing contractors, suppliers, and external service providers.
- Have strong organisational, communication, and team development skills.
- Be committed to continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.
